I went through a major burnout and art block after my Advent Halendar project back in October. It was my longest-lasting hiatus, and even though I tried my hardest to get back in the game of hand-lettering I just couldn’t break the dry spell. The harder I tried, the more difficult it became... So instead of forcing inspiration back into my life, I went with the flow and took this art-block as my chance to let my mind rest.
It was during this rest where I kept contemplating about the pressures of “the hustle”, and how we, as creatives, should be constantly creating. But what if you wanted to take a break? I see people who apologise over on instagram for taking some time off when we shouldn’t really say sorry for needing that break. So I came up with some quotes as part of my “letters to a tired creative” for those who simply can’t hustle everyday.
Choose to be your best self
Choose community over competition, focusing on being your best self rather than being ‘the best’.
Less Hustle More Sleep
Because sometimes you just want to lay down and rest rather than spend all weekend at the desk after a long week at work.
Just have fun!
My motto for this year and beyond - no matter what I do, I must always try to have fun!
